Event Details

You've been hearing a lot about social media.  You know you need to start learning more about it and what the different tools can be used for.  You want to understand how it fits into your business or career and what the benefits are.  Here's your opportunity to get a crash course with the people behind Social Media Breakfast (SMBMSP).

Join SMBMSP founder, Rick Mahn, for a two hour education session on social media and how to get started.  This course will cover all the tips, tricks, and techniques for personalizing social media for your needs, style, and perspective.  We're keeping the class size at six people to provide ample opportunities for personal interaction and attention.  This means more time for you to have your specific questions answered rather than generic overviews and a one-size-fits-all approach.

Course Description

What is social media and why is it important

We discuss what social media is and why it’s become an effective way to connect with people.  Whether for word-of-mouth marketing, listening, or building community, we explain the what & why in relation to how it’s important for you.

Using the Tools - Common Tools to Start With

There are so many tools and services to use - where does one start?  You've heard of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others, but what's right for me?  We'll talk about what your individual objective is and find the tools best suited to get you where you're going.

Privacy (Or the lack thereof - aren't you afraid of being "out there"?)

We've all heard the rumors and myths about being active in social media - of sharing too much information.  What are the pitfalls of sharing more information about yourself, your opinions, and other personal data?  In this session we'll talk about best practices in sharing information, and how much is too much.

Personal Brand - Why you should have one

In this session we'll talk about personal branding, your online reputation, and how social media tools & techniques are used to establish and expand your brand.  This work as well for individuals as it does for businesses.  We will perform a brand audit for everyone attending, and offer ideas for improving and growing each person's online reputation.

This event is being hosted at Ovative/Group, located in the Open Book facilities (address located to the right)

This is the initial course in a comprehensive series offered by SMBMSP, that will cover everything from how to get started to advanced topics for serious social media professionals.

So what is a "Social Media Breakfast"? It's where folks get together to talk about using social media and social networking tools in their business or careers. It's about networking, it's about learning, and mostly it's about people.
